UFOria: How is your health?

Jake: Not great. I eat very well, i´m pretty much vegan, not here in Mexico because is hard to do, but when I´m home I´m vegan. I drink a lot and smoke a lot of cigarettes but the thing of touring and Black Lips said this: “I´ve met guys who don´t drink on tour, but i don´t fuckin understand how you could do that.” because touring is great and the shows are awesome, but the reality is that the majority of your day or the majority of your working days are spend with your privacy completely compromise with a bunch of people you can´t get away from even with your friends and you are mostly just doing tedious things like driving in a van, check in the airport, sound checking and then you have this shot of a can with adrenaline you had a good show and afterwards there is nothing to do but get fucked up, so you can just go to bed, but this is really (….) the worst part of drinking in tours sometimes you have amazing experiences, your hang over but a lot of times is not like “i made a lot of friends” is more like “i just got drunk in the dressing room after the show with the guys or by myself, just drinking beer and the next thing i know is i´m shitface, but well that´s how it goes.”

UFOria: So you are unhealthy as we all are…

Jake: The only difference for us on tour is when we´r playing shows is a very good exercise, so that´s good, even when your hang over or you feel shitty of being tired of tour…when we play is like you went running so you get endorphins and finally you feel better and then because you feel better you´ll get drunk again.

UFOria: Most awkward moment in 2010 during tour…

Jake: When we played Lollapalooza it was raining, on stage I had to be like in the fronted back  and Jon was in the middle as usual. It was embarrassing and hilarious for me, I had my eyes closed cause´ i was singing and he was dancing around like he does that sometimes is kind of goofy (i think) so i looked up and the stage was very wet and the moment I opened my eyes, Jon slips but the way that it looked to me it was like if he just decided to try to do splits, but he is not flexible, so literally he went almost all the way in a full split and then he stopped and kind of grabbed his balls and pull himself back up.  We were playing in front of thousand of people and I couldn’t stop laughing, besides our music is not fun is not like i stop between the show and say “hello guys how you doing?”  We have like a mystique and we try to carry through the performance and i just ruined it, i couldn’t sing…

UFOria: Did people notice?

Jake: Im sure cause´ i couldn’t sing the parts after the breakdown of the song, I was trying not to picture Jon, but i couldn´t help it, I would laugh into the microphone in front of thousand of people and just couldn’t finish the song.

Gracias a REVERB y Vice pudimos entrevistar a HEALTH. REVERB se va a encargar de traer a bandas chingonas que ya estan a un paso de entrar al mainstream; este primer show que consolidaron en el Teatro Fru Fru hizo que a todos nos saliera la cerilla que teníamos atorada en los oídos.
